It's time again for the Des Moines Marathon and the Castaways have been asked to once again bring our fun, our tropical spirit and our energy to the runners. We will have the spot that we've occupied for several years now, back in Water Works Park. We hear so often from the runners that this is a particularly tough part of the race for them and then they hear the music, see the posters and hear us cheering them on and it gives them a much needed boost.
Many of you have done this with us each year, and we look forward to having you back. First timers - you're welcome too! This is a very fun day, with lots to do.
We'll start off by staging our area and begin to mix the Gatorade, then start filling the many (many!) cups. We'll get signs hung up and the music going. Then, the fun begins as the participants start hitting our area.
We also try to get everyone to bring treats to share with the other volunteers. It's a long day and we don't have lunch brought in. :-)
Please use the registration area here to get signed up. You will also need to sign up on the Des Moines Marathon website by following this link. Choose Aid Station L - Coconut Castaways. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Feel free to invite family, co-workers and friends to come help. This is also a good area if you know of anyone looking for a good place to watch the race. You see absolutely everyone come by while listening to great Trop-Rock music. Come join us!
